Last week saw my first adventure with Help Portrait. A movement for photographers to use their time and expertise to give back to those in need. This year, students from Louisiana Tech University got together to take portraits of the kids of Methodist Children’s Home of Ruston. The overall experience was an amazing one. One of the best things of the day was seeing the kids faces as they were lined up to take the pictures. I was told by the faculty that this is something that most of them have never done before and they more beyond thrilled to have the chance to get a portrait of themselves to share for the holidays. Being the one running around to make sure everything was in working order and going smoothly for the ~65 kids we took portraits of, I sadly wasn’t able to talk with any of the kids; but just from the expressions I saw, I knew they were having a blast. Aside from some hic-ups from the printers, I believe the day went great and I do hope the tradition is kept up in Ruston for many years after I graduate this May.
